Railroads had a tremendous impact on both the start and especially the end of WWI. Learn about Germany’s Schlieffen Plan to plan the war (for years) against France and Russia and used the plan to begin the war. Also, learn how the railroad helped cause Germany to stop the war. This clinic discusses the state of railroad industry at the start of the war and use of the railroads including the Railroad’s War Board, United States Railroad Administration (USRA), Railway Administration Act, and much more.
Bio
Kenton Colvin is VP of the Mon Valley Railroad Historical Society in Morgantown, WV. He is a member of Division 2 MCR, of the NMRA and a model railroader for about 65 years. He holds a BS Mechanical Engineering degree (WVU) and a Master’s in Industrial and Systems Engineering (Ohio University). He worked 26 years for 6 corporations in manufacturing management and 18 years at WVU in the Admissions and Records Department. He has taught engineering courses for 26 years as an adjunct instructor.
