Join the Tuscarawas Valley Civil War Round Table for its Thursday, October 13th meeting.
Presenter John Barnett will discuss Pott’s early life in a very small town called Wattsville in Eastern Ohio and his service to General US Grant during the Civil War and his post war Ohio Legislature tour that changed the United States by adding the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments to the Constitution. Potts was a Democrat but served Republican President Grant by delivering Ohio, against all odds, on the ratification. As a reward, President Grant appointed General Potts to Territorial Governor of Montana, and Potts delivered the Territory into Statehood.
